The new Massivemag.com is brought to you by the volunteer efforts of a dedicated band of old school Massive Posse, determined to make available the old archives and present new content.  Your Massivemag.com catalog orders help pay for the substantial costs of developing, maintaining, and improving the website (booze and ephedrine really). However, if you've had your fill of Massive goodies, we also accept donations towards the cause.  The bigger the better.  After all these years, some of our crack-smoking readers must've finally got off the pipe and struck it big in the derivatives market or was smart enough to invest in lottery tickets.  Send some of that money over this way. Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy nostalgia.  Last, we're no better than those scumbags we send to Washington:  Money talks.  If you have an idea for what you'd like to see on Massivemag.com, include it as a note with your donation!

Saturday, February 26th - Momentum - Lexington
A ten hour drive from Milwaukee paid off upon arriving in Lexington.  The event took place in an indoor baseball arena - with all the props put to use.  The DJ's spun from behind a netted fence that would otherwise catch stray balls.  At some point in the night someone found a hidden cachet of suits and helmets, increasing the masquerade that Kentucky seems fond of.  Much respects to J2 for a pumpin' scene in the strangest of places (Kentucky?).  Outstanding breaks set by Dieselboy of Pittsburg followed by Terry Mullan bringing down the house.  (matt)

Friday, March 4th - Eclipse Free - Chicago
Following the generous servings of Free parties of February in Chicago by Friction, Eclipse Productions (Nebula) decided to increase the kindness.  The event took place in a teen night club in the extreme southern 'burbs of Chicago.  The party offered a wonderful line-up of local talent and attracted a respectable crowd, but the party fell into that rollerskating rink syndrome with rude security, mirrored walls, and that whole not so fresh feeling.  When the police threatened to bust the party (it's rumored that the owner of the place called it in on his own) it seemed somewhat a mercy killing.  Large props to Eclipse for trying.  (matt)

Saturday, March 5th - Moon Flow - Chicago
Respect goes out to Incredibeets for trying to throw a relatively small party with a predominant hardcore line-up in Chicago.  Musically the party was slammin', with equal amounts of hardcore played for everyone's liking, other than that the party really wasn't going on.  There was never more than 15 people dancing at once; to go along with a pack of gangsters who caused nothing but trouble.  New life was injected to the party for awhile when the Hope party merged with this one at around 3 and managed to go until 6.  (lucas)

Saturday, March 12th - Contact - Chicago
This was a celebrational party for the founding of Hyperactive's new Contact label - held in that classic space - the Oak Theater.  It assembled the finest DJ's of the Midwest with impressive sets by Phantom 45 and Mystic Bill.  (matt)

Saturday, March 19th - Descension - Milwaukee
Boasting an Iron Maiden album cover on the flyer - with Satan in all his glory - and a full-fledged banner behind the dj's featuring a goat within a pentagram - this party was hyped as the evilest thing to touch down in Milwaukee since Dahmer.  Well, luckily it didn't go that far - instead, it accomplished the real motive - an acid (music) festival bringing in Jimmy Crash and Adam X from Brooklyn, New York.  Though the space was large, the ticket sales had to be stopped within 2 hours of opening because the space ( a warehouse between Racine and Milwaukee) filled way beyond standing capacity.  The true prize must be given to local talent for bringing the best vibe.  Jedidiah the Messiah, ESP, Davey Dave, Mystic Bill, and JaJo created the most beautiful of times into the morning hours.  When ESP spun the oldie 'Mellow Yellow' as his opener, I do believe I imploded.  (matt)

Saturday, March 26th - Sabbatical - Milwaukee
Whoah…a party in downtown Milwaukee.  This is by far the best asset of this party.  It wasn't what you would call a rave - more like a house party.  The fear of downtown Milwaukee raves, I'm sure, played a big part in the low turnout.  The music was mostly all house with Todd P. spinning a killer acid set.  Area 39 was amazing.  It's one guy who makes incredible tribal and ambient music.  People danced, but for the most part stood around and talked, like every other rave lately.  All in all, Network 10 and In House have us something worthwhile to do.  It's a very impressive thing to pull a party off in the City of Milwaukee.  (Jodie)

Saturday, April 9th - Escape Velocity - Lexington
The Magic Ryder Bus was in full effect - and on the way to Kentucky, of all places - for a party.  But the party was definitely worth the trip.  The whole she-bang was held in a barn inside the Kentucky Horse Park - which was huge (it took us 15 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the barn).  Dave Hollands and Richie Hawtin were rippin' shit up, but it was Terry Mullan who was Da Bomb.  There was also all sorts of little toys for people to play with - computers for all the 'Net Ravers' who just can't get enough of the 'Information Highway' and some early eighties video games.  There were no problems at all, except for when the fire trucks had to come and save the guy who was freakin'.  People said he candy flipped and couldn't handle it, but I think he just couldn't handle the line to use the computers.  (lucas)

Friday, April 29th-Sunday May 1st - Further - Bumblefuck, WI
If you were only to go to one party this year, this was the one to go to.  Three days of music with DJ's and live performances from artists all over the world, with headliners Aphex Twin, Frankie Bones, Kosmic Komando, and The Hardkiss Experience.  But what made this party spectacular was the vibe.  With numerous technical problems, beyond the control of Drop Bass, that would of destroyed any other parties -- but this party was about people, not lights and sound.  What was a dirt bike trail any other time became a land of spiritual enlightenment.  Three thousand people coming together as one to create an experience more moving than anything most people there have ever witnessed or been a part of.  Much respect goes out to Drop Bass and M.O.R.E. for providing a test to see how far we've come along in the last two years.  (lucas)

Saturday, May 7th - Vivid - Minneapolis
After listening to a rad tag-team effort by Jedidiah, Jethrox, and Mr. Bill in Madison at Day Rave 2, we headed to Minneapolis.  Vivid was held in what seemed to be a closed down grocery store (with a basement) in the so-called Ghetto of Minneapolis (posh).  Well, let's see…the highlight sets were definitely by Jedidiah's hard acid and Drone's breaks.  Drone spun the 'ard style much unlike that of the Chi-town, and did a fuggin' rad job at it.  CHA's JJ Jellybean couldn't act as a diplomat to the whole affair, for he had skipped out on his duty to travel to the breaks Mecca o' Toronto.  Minneapolis breaks reign once again.  To slow the pace of the night, our homeboy Mr. Bill was also not able to make it.  Mucho respecto unto DanceTribe for bringing some diversity to the M.O.R.E scene.  (matt)

Saturday, May 14th - Infinite - Bumblefuck, WI
After a three and a half hour drive to the middle of nowhere, spirits were on the DL for Infinite, Trust's first party since the painfully successful Free parties.  It boasted a line-up that we thought would be well worth the trip…we were wrong.  The party was a disaster due to numerous reasons.  Only 160 people showed, causing the Trust pockets to shrink so much more.  No shows by Richie Hawtin, Terry Mullan, Phantom 45, and others really made us lose hope in the party.  To top it all off, one (1) cop nearly shut the whole party down.  The highlight of the night was the Ambient Womb.  Give respect to Friction/Trust for trying, they just wanted to throw an original party.  (lucas)

Friday, May 20th - Euphoria - Milwaukee
Mo' Power Tu' Ya Productions brought a great, legal, Friday night event in Milwaukee - held at Serb Hall on the southside.  Then the party moved to an underground after-hours on the northside.  Let's hope for some more small get together parties to bring out the Milwaukee crue.  Great sets by Efex and Jethrox and some great returns by Synergy and Acid Boy Todd P.  (matt)

Saturday, May 21st - Kingdom of the Blind - Dayton
LENNY MOTHERFUCKIN' DEE plucked us out of the doldrums of this night and sent us to a happier hell.  We drove the distance for quality on this night to be joined by fellow hellhounds ATP, Delta 9, CHA, Junga Vibz, Hard Corn, and others who know where it's at.  After bruises and blood we all settled in to some funky beats and shining examples of Dayton's demi-goddesses.  (matt)

Saturday, May 28th - Destiny - Chicago
Hide the children, it's time for the Breaks; or at least time to take them seriously.  This event showed that a party can withstand a breaks-headlining line-up.  But, then again,   maybe it can't be based on the number of people who were fucked up at this event.  In my 'straight at parties' opinion, the party was slammin' -- great lighting, impressive line-up, cool vibe…but to recall the amount of drug use here saddens me, when will you people emerge from your pod and realize what these parties are really about?  Oh yeah, great set by DB too.  (matt)

The parties over the past few months seem to be getting better and better leaving us with high hopes for this upcoming summer.  If you are wondering why some bigger parties were not mentioned in here is because we didn't go to them or could not find somebody willing to write a review on them.  But from what we heard parties such as Acid Rain by A.T.P., La La Land by the Away Team, Joy and Flower Power 2000 by M.O.R.E., and a handful of St. Louis were all really good.
